In memory of Dirk Clotman
We are sad to announce that Dirk Clotman, Euro Chlor Communications Manager, passed away on 25th October 2019 after a long period of illness. Dirk had worked for Cefic since May 2008 and spent his whole career communicating his passion for science.
A Belgian native, Dirk had a background in analytical chemistry and had previously worked in the communications departments of the Belgian chemical federation Fedichem (now Essenscia), BASF and the Royal Flemish Chemical Association. He focused on bridging the gap between modern science and the public at large. In Euro Chlor he had developed an experiment to show diverse audiences - ranging from management audiences to school children - how chlorine is made. He was instrumental in bringing ‘It’s a chlorine thing’ and the ‘17 Successes’ programme to life, following his passion of explaining the benefits of chlor-alkali products.
He is survived by his wife, two children and two grandchildren of whom he was immensely proud. We send our deepest condolences to Dirk’s family and friends.
