Is there a chlorine industry in Europe?

Chlorine is produced in 68 European locations and Euro Chlor counts 34 full member companies. Together they produce about ten million tonnes of chlorine per year.

About 95% of that production is used nearby or on the site itself for the manufacture of downstream products like the plastic PVC (polyvinyl chloride). In this way, transportation of chlorine is reduced to a minimum.

Many of the chlorine producers are an integrated part of the big world-size chemical companies, but several other players are also specialised in chlorine production.
