Covestro looks at sustainable polyol-based mattresses and recycling scheme
Euro Chlor member Covestro has developed Cardyon®, which enables manufacturers to create flexible polyurethane foams with a sustainable polyol made with up to 20% carbon dioxide. This reduces an organization's carbon footprint and raises its ecological profile. Click here for more details.
Covestro is also showing how chlor-alkali chemicals can be effectively recycled. This new scheme is being launched in Australia to recover polyurethane from mattresses and aims to bring the number being dumped into landfills to zero within five years. Polyurethane foam is used to make bedding materials comfortable but Covestro note that it can be recovered from old mattresses to be made into things like acoustic panels and high-strength, non-flammable building materials.
