Ercros recognised by UN for climate protection initiatives at COP25
The United Nations Global Compact has selected Ercros, a Euro Chlor member, for having one of the 101 best business initiatives to contribute to the fight against climate change, after including the company in its dossier of good practices for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These 101 business initiatives will be presented on 5th December 2019 in the framework of the Climate Summit (COP 25) being held in Madrid, Spain.
The Ercros initiative is reflected in the 11% reduction in its direct greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in 2018 compared to the previous year, while the total emissions index has been reduced by 15.5%, if we carry out the calculation in homogeneous terms towards 2017.
This initiative is part of the sustainability management system applied. Ercros quantifies its emissions every year to reduce them and minimise their impact. It also applies ISO 14064 to the quantification and declaration of GHGs.
In addition, the company's factories carry out a number of actions with the objective of contributing to the fight against climate change, including the replacement of fuels by others with lower GHG emissions; control of leaks in refrigerant equipment; and the consumption of hydrogen generated in electrolytic processes as fuel for boilers. Ercros voluntarily adheres to the Responsible Care programme and the Global Compact programme promoted by the UN (with an Advanced classification).
