Covestro to invest EUR 300 million to boost Antwerp aniline production

31/10/2018

As part of their wider methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) program, German Euro Chlor member company Covestro is planning to invest around EUR 300 million in a new aniline production at their Antwerp, Belgium site. With the new unit coming online around 2022, the new site is expected to create additional local jobs.

Aniline is an important starting material for numerous chemical products, including MDI. MDI is in turn a key ingredient for rigid foams that are used in building and refrigerator insulation. Some of these foams also utilise chlorine chemistry in their production.

Volker Weintritt, Managing Director of Covestro Antwerp noted “Our Antwerp site plays a crucial role in Covestro’s supply and production network and this investment proves it will continue to do so in the future”.
